In fairness, I don't use it much myself now, but I want to know how to acquire my dads' service history. I did send for his service record, but it was very disappointing, only showing where he served in the navy, eg each ship and for how long. Nothing else. Not even his medal entitlement. On Heir Hunters the other day, it showed two guys looking at someones' military service with full handwritten details, virtually on a day to day basis. Is this different from a service record? Is it called something else? If anyone knows, can they advise please? Thanks.

To check your father's medal entitlement, try an email to [email protected], providing his full name and date of birth, together with his branch or trade within the Royal Navy, his service number, his rank and his date of discharge.
hiya, just passing through and spotted this. Find My Past have mercahnt navy records (with photos) from way back into the 1800s, yes seriously, photos were taken of merchant seaman very early which is brilliant, if your dad was in the royal navy then this is where you would start:
