Hi Everyone Can any of you help? I have never owned an Xbox 360 before and managed to get a bargain on Ebay, or so i thought. In the description it said "Red Ring Of Death" and not being that clued up i thought it was a game that came with it. I now find out it is actually a fault with the system. As you can imagine i am a little Pi@@ed off. Do any of you know how i can fix this WITHOUT sending it away and forking out more money? I have seen the youtube video with the towels but it looks very iffy to me. Please help Thanks Dean

You could try having it repaired by a professional for 60

You could buy another preowned one for 120 from Game or similar and sell the broken one on ebay

Thought it was a game????? lol

Try contacting Ebay and explain the problem. If the seller didnt actually state that it was faulty and only said 'red ring of death' then maybe you have a case for getting your money back.

Thanks to those of you who have given me some advice, PUG, TRIGGER & MATTK. As for "Another-view" i'm glad you found my situation so funny. It may not have occured to you that some of us OLDER folk have never heard of "rings of death" before, having never owed an Xbox360 or reading anything about it, and may actually feel ripped off, i personally don't find it a laughing matter. Thanks again to PUG, TRIGGER & MATTK, I'll see what happens when/if it arrives and post what happens on here at a later date.
Having never heard of one or read anything about an XBOX would surely have prompted you to check up on it first rather than buying one blindly and hoping for the best?

"I bought a car with a knackered engine. I thought knackered was the brand name".

Even though I read this at 8:30 this morning, I'm still laughing over it. At least you'll know for next time I guess.
Can you post a link to the auction or copy and paste the exact text gaoler?

"Rings of Death"

Console on its own

Never been opened and if want the picture for proof email me

Can include hard drive for a negotiated price

Can you see where it says its "FAULTY"?
i know alot of people who have had the red ring but unfortunatly every one of them had to throw it away. sorry dude that sucks.
why would you throw away a console that is under warranty?

gaoler, i think you have a case. Altho I know what the seller was referring to I can understand why many others wouldnt. also he clearly states 'never been opened' which if it is faulty it clearly has.
The console itself has never been opened, obviously the packaging has. The "Rings of Death" is where it indicates it is faulty. You should have checked what the term meant.

Sorry but you've been conned.
but again it is vague and intimates the packaging has not been touched. the seller may have been genuine and just naive in his wording tho but either way there is a definite case for a refund..
I think what you'll find he means is the console itself has not been opened, in that he hasn't unscrewed it to look inside which invalidates the warranty.

If you'd googled Red Ring of Death, the first entry is Wikipedia which clearly states it's a problem with the machine, so I'm afraid there's no sympathy for you on that front. It's definitely a case of buyer beware when you buy from eBay. I doubt very much you'll have a case as Red Ring of Death is generally associated with a fault

Do NOT copy the video with the towels you'll find in youtube, the kid has absolutely no idea what he's talking about and you'll only knacker the thing even more.

Trigger has the best suggestion, register the console in your name with Microsoft and it should then have the remainder of the three year warranty available so you can get it fixed for free. If not, then you're looking at around 50 -60 which would still make it a decent price for a 360 based on what faulty ones are selling for on eBay.

Sorry for your predicament, but you should've done your research first - hope you get it sorted one way or another.
another-view - It must be nice to be as clever as you!

gaoler was politely asking for help & information, not sarcastic comments.

Like some others, I too would have thought 'Red Ring of Death' was a game of some sort, not a 'fault' - so pick the bones out of that, you cocky ******!
The asterisks read b-u-g-g-e-r.
Surely, anyone with an ounce of common sense would have checked on any term they didn't understand before parting with their hard earned cash?
Yes - obviously it's always best to check beforehand, but just because YOU know what those words mean, doesn't mean to say 'everyone' does - okay?

We 'all' learn by our mistakes & I say again, goaler asked politely, but you just couldn't resist jumping in, only to mock. Sad!
I don't understand what you are getting at?

The guy publicly announces that he bought something out of the blue and hoped for the best and we are supposed to feel sorry for him?! I imagine he also replies to the emails from ex-Nigerian Presidents wanting to share their fourtunes.

I think it was PT Barnum who said, "There's a sucker born every minute".
I do hope there's not one of YOU born every minute another-view. I think you're the one with the problem, not someone politely asking a genuine question.

Yes, I'm sure goaler now realises he's been duped, so he/she doesn't need others like you mocking.

Have a nice day!
If he didn't want mocking, then he shouldn't have posted his stupid actions on a public website. I'm not saying he should have known what the term was. I'm saying he should have looked it up if he was unsure.
