Well, I\'ve decided to get out the bread making machine from the back of the kitchen cupboard, & have a go at making bread again.
I\'ve made bread from the all-in-one mixes you can buy, but these gave mixed results. I have also tried making it from the basic ingredients, but these looked & tasted like house bricks.
Has anyone out there got a tried & tested bread recipe suitable for a bread making machine?

a lot depends on the make of bread maker you have, I used to have a cheap one and the only way I could get a decent loaf was to let the machine make the dough and then tip it out, knock it about a bit then put it in a tin, leave it to rise then bake in the oven, it always turned out nice. but the recipe that I use now that I have a better machine is as follows. Two tsp fast acting yeast. one pound of strong bread flour. two tsp caster sugar. one once lard. ten fluid ounce warm water. one tsp salt. I put it on the two hour program, its important to ad things in the order given although I dont know why, but it does make a difference, it always makes a nice loaf, good luck.
I make rye bread to a recipe and it's great but I now use Hovis bread mixes which are 2 for £1 for granary and white loaves. Perfect every time.
We have a bread maker but I've never used it. Hubby on the other hand is our baker in charge. Virtually all the bread we eat he makes. I can't say I've ever had to eat any dodgy results and he has had success from the word go, regardless of whether he uses the recipe cards or a bread making book. I'm cakes but if I can't make one he knocks up a more than acceptable carrot cake or ginger cake in the bread maker.

Just get stuck in carrust, follow your particular machines recipes to the letter and hopefully you will enjoy great results. Home made bread is vastly different from mass produced - much better - and I find I eat less of it as it is more filling.
