years ago I was wandering round a local park with my dog. It was about two in the morning. I heard a noise and thought it was a plane from the nearby flying school about to crash. It turned out to be a Swan trying to take off from the pond. Even my dog laughed at me.

Beaminster had a gun on the plinth in memory of the war dead 1914, oppo the Red Lion here

and in 1939 - there was a fear discussed at council that the glintinng of the metal gun would attract German bombers to bomb Beaminster, so the Air Raid Warden recommended that it be taken down
( later sold as scrap)
