I like my steak to be warmed through, and that's it - bloody as hell in the middle and almost still mooing.

Whilst I find it pretentious of some chefs to refuse to cook a piece of steak well done, it does beg the question as to why anybody would want it well done! IMO, if you have a well done steak, you may as well just chew on a piece of shoe sole leather - utterly tasteless and tough. As i say, just my opinion, but I find it astonishing that somebody could ask for a nice piece of marbled fillet well done!!!

whenever my hubs asked how he wants his he says just rip the horns off and plate it up!

I like my medium - medium/well. My mum likes her well well done - burnt. I guess it just different dtrokes for different folks. I like the taste of v well done steak, but agree with you, the fact that t's like chewing leather puts me off. I get jaw ache after the first bite!

i get looks of disgust in restaurants when i ask for a blue steak, just show it the pan and whack it on the plate! my mum is the same!

My mum in law to be has hers so well done it looks like a lump of charcoal! yuck!

medium rare for me.

LOL @ "just rip the horns off and plate it up!"

I used to have mine well done until I watched a tv chef say that medium well is better as it's more tender, so now when I have it at a restaurant I either go for medium well or medium.

yeah, cockney_si, but have you never thought that medium-rare or rare would be even tenderer?

rare for me.

Of course I realis that rare or medium rare would be much tender but I still like it to be cooked enough not to make my stomach growl after eating it.

My mates usually like theirs bloody as hell so naturally at their barbeques I cook my own :o)

II to am in the wipe its arse and show it the pan school of gastro thought .

Blue or rare, I managed to convert my I only eat chicken GF around to the delights of a good bloody beef fillet!! Well done steak is a travesty!! But stroke and folks and all that.

I like mine blue. But cooked correctly a well done steak should be more tender than a rare one.

in word..............nuke it.........

hate any blood or red in my meat

If a good fillet steak is cooked properly (on the highest heat possible) then it can still be 'blue' on the inside but heated to a high enough temperature to kill any bugs. Yum.

I used to be a 'nuke it' but am now a medium man.

My mate swears by blue - how we laughed on a ski trip to France when he made a big song and dance in a restaurant one evening, deriding even those who wanted medium as philistines.....three hours later he was on the big white telephone, enjoying his steak for a second time! Its got t obe cooked a bit more than blue for my liking!

Just out of interest (no connection to me) the Goucho Grill off Picadilly does a wonderful range of steaks, the chef brings round all the cuts on a platter beforehand so you can choose - well worth a visit if in London and wondering where to eat! Trouble is, you want them all!!

sorry .. Gaucho Grill - in a few other UK citys too...I want to go NOW!
