Took delivery of my online Tesco shop earlier and was taken aback when I opened the box of eggs as they were all white! It's years since I saw a white egg and somehow, they just don't look as appealing as nice brown ones.Is there any difference in the taste and have any of you seen white eggs lately?
According to the link Mamya has put on, the white eggs are cheaper. If I was shopping in the store, I wouldn't choose white eggs, but that might be me being finicky.
I bought half a dozen from Tesco's a week or two ago and they were pale blue. I've only ever seen ducks' eggs of that colour. Perhaps they were from blue hens! They tasted fine and the yolk was a slightly darker colour than usual.
There is absolutely no difference between white eggs and brown. The difference in yolk colour would be what the hens are fed, and if they are free range. I have hens that lay white eggs, dark brown eggs, and blue eggs. There is no difference what so ever in the taste.
Just to add that white eggs are likely to be more money than the light brown as the hens that lay white eggs are not as prolific layers as the commercial breeds.
Ours eat anything they can find they have the run of the place and all the surrounding fields. They like hard cat food if they can pinch it but in the summer they like nothing better than a watermelon, they go mad!
I've seen...and bought...blue eggs. They always cost more. I got eggs from a produce delivery service on the weekend. The yolks are the most yellow I've ever seen. My egg mayo ( mayo made with the same eggs) is verging on glow in the dark.
All the blue shells mean is that a pigment from the liver has bled into the eggshell in early development. It's completely harmless and shouldn't affect the actual egg itself.
