If I was buying a bottle of wine for Xmas Day, whether its dark meat or white, I would choose a Gewurztraminer, from Alsace, probably the best Riesling that you will ever taste.....medium dry, with a really spicy finish. Its also rather robust and will cope with any food that that you can throw at it.
Its never very cheap here in Britain, but its definitely worth looking out for. Expect to pay at least £8:00 a bottle, and beware of South African "Gewurztraminers"
