The Germans love to talk English. As soon as I tell them to talk slower because I am English that's it we have to speak English.
And they all want to be Facebook friends even if you have just met them.

Ich auch ! Fair enough, I think that in your own country people who live there should all be able to speak your language. On Sat. our taxi driver, who was taking us to Pisa airport from our holiday let, turned out to be a Frenchman. He could manage in Italian very well, although he enjoyed being able to chat to me in French, and he waxed lyrical about the absolute necessity of the common language in countries and the divisions caused by lack of native language.

It's Germany, people who live there should speak German.
(P.S. Taxi driver and his girlfriend are now coming to visit us!)

I think if you are in a country you should be able to converse in their native tongue.

However, look at what happen to the Welsh speaking staff in a branch of lidl (err, in Wales obviously)

YMB, we will never leave completely, just get used to the idea and try to enjoy. Yes Article 50 is just for those in Fairy Land.
