I've been avoiding this for weeks but we still seem to be nowhere near any sort of solution to this so any ideas how we can make it work?

It works on the US/Canada border so why not in Ireland.

for all the reasons given lately danny.
Build a wall and make the EU pay for it.
(hang on, I've heard similar somewhere else...)

How about ID cards for the workers?
To prove that they are entitled to leave one part to go and work in the other?

How does it work between NK and SK? Only asking as I have not got a clue.

Yes I remember the chants of build bridges not walls ... of course that was before we had to start building walls on bridges.

Alba, North and South korea are divided by a 2.5 mile wide border of no mans land. A trifle over the top for Ireland!
aah, thanks TTT
and yes, I agree, a tad over the top for Ireland. :-)

I like the idea of just using the Irish sea but inevitably that creates what many would see as a "united Ireland" so I guess we'll have to have some sort of solution on land but I can't see anyone liking an actual border so I reckon we'll have some sort of tech based system. No Idea what though.
A tech base system is mentioned in the link.
As far as I've seen the only reasons given so far is that some folk wish to be awkward, negative, and/or going for their own agenda. It'll work fine as it has done previously as long as authorities keep an eye on it to prevent abuse. Anyway it's a UK Irish border, EU not really directly involved save where they wish to put their nose in and meddle with national agreements.
Ah I see an "own agenda, trying to make gain if awkward enough", scenario has already been mentioned. Shame !

..."EU not really directly involved save where they wish to put their nose in and meddle with national agreements. " - err are you familiar with the EU OG? PMSL!
How can the authorities Keep an eye on it, when you can walk across a field and be in a different country?
Cant we just have passport checks into the UK Mainland and allow an 'open' border within Ireland? An open border meaning the Irish just show their passports in the fast track with the British everyone else goes through passport control. Same in the reverse.

Change the rules so no 'foreigners' have any rights in the UK (No council houses or benefits) and will be detained until we find their country of origin. If that is the EU then lob back over the border to Ireland.

It cant be difficult providing no one tried to make it political. Personally I dont want to loose our close ties with the Irish so we need to find something then just tell the EU what it is.

well that's what I think would work best YMB but the Unionists etc would see that as a united Ireland in all but name.
The argument against that is:

a) A passport is being shown so hardly united

b) It could just as must be interpreted as a United Britain with Ireland.
Question Author
I can see that YMB but sadly they will choose not to.
I guess so but how did it work before we were both members of the EU? In fact how does it work now given we are not members of Schengen?
It is impossible to have any sort of "proper" border in Ireland.
It is hundreds of miles long and in places actually goes through people's houses. There is one enclave of either County Monaghan or Cavan which is almost completely cut off by the North.
The idea of an "EU border" seems so ridiculous to many of the residents along it that they've actually had to be reminded that someone might just be tempted to try it, with all the consequences that might bring.
We know that Ich, so any ideas as TTT has asked in the OP?
Question Author
we established that it does not go through anyones house ich the other week.
