Well, it's cottage pie here in casa Carolina, with cavalo nero, broccoli and gravy. Strawberries and cream for the OH afterwards. I prefer my strawberries in a port and lemonade with a sprig of mint.

What are you culinary heavyweights dishing up today?

Salted peanuts, pork scratchings and a few lagers to wash it down.

I could chuck in some pretzels and a Time Out if you're still peckish, Talbot.
Depends what the pub we stop off at is serving.
It'll be dinner for me, NoM......climbing ladders today so something to prick and ping.....or hospital food.......x
I did Sunday Dinner for four last night - excellent Rib Eye steaks from Mr Aldi and all the usual trimmings - even roasted some cherry tomatoes with balsamic/oil dressing. Plus a couple of bottles of Smoking Loon. Am still quite full ...

... so it will be diet crackers and fizzy water chez SD today I think - or at least something not too calorific.

What ever is on the buffet table and BBQ. Which I hope and pray won't be cheap burgers and bangers with nasty coleslaw and pasta salad.

My food snob credentials really do come out when it's BBQ season :-(

Fizzy water for me too, Dave. I'm on call :(

Enjoy the pub, paddy.

A ding dinner, gness? M&S do a nice range.

I'm with you on that, Eccles. Mass produced coleslaw should be outlawed.
They do, NoM......I stock up when I go to town....but I'm lucky enough to have a nearby farm shop where they offer a great selection of meals for one made by some local ladies.....x
So should cavalo nero (whatever that is) !!
I tend to lose my appetite when the host proudly tells me how they got ten sausages for a quid......

I'll happily sign the petition for industrial coleslaw being banned.

It's "black cabbage" and it's delicious, jambutty.
I'm sure we will NoM,the suns shining so we'll have a ride around a bit till we find a likely looking pub and try what they've got on offer. We do it quite often and it's rare we 're disappointed.
Aaaargh - cheap sausages and burgers should be excommunicated - as should anyone who bungs chicken on a BBQ without cooking it through properly first.

Rice 'salad' is another pet hate at BBQs - it can be delicious if made properly - but usually consists of way too much anaemic rice, spiked with a few tasteless veg bits and some tinned sweetcorn - yuk
Roast chicken with the usual sides plus half a bottle of Yearlstone rose sparkling which is in the fridge. It was supposed to be taken to someone`s house at Christmas but has lasted one week on the wine rack. I might have it tonight.
Question Author
There's a similar place near me, gness.

I shudder to think what goes into cheap bangers, Eccles.
Rice salad as you describe makes me want to hurl.

Now if it's made with Carmague red rice and has a tasty dressing, that is a different matter entirely.
Question Author
I share your disdain for rice salad, SD.

I've got a chicken in the slow cooker, 237SJ. It's for sandwiches, though.

J'adore red and black rice! Mixed up with some quinoa, lentils and other grains they make an excellent Base for a salad. I usually roast up some aubergines and peppers, add some goat's Cheese, pine nuts and sundried toms with some fresh mint and dill.
I usually use 50/50 wild rice and nutty brown rice - makes good salad with some crunchy veg/nuts/croutons and a balsamic type dressing.

Drat - now starting to feel hungry again ...
