I have a fork buffet lunch to cook in the coming weeks and I am conscious that I often push boundaries that the more conservative may find a little wild.

I am planning on cooking some dishes that are my natural style and some more classical dishes that will suit the traditionalists.

To maintain a bit of balance I would like to hear what you immediately reach for when confronted with a fork buffet or what you hope to find.

Over to you guys........

Sounds lush Eccles, forget about them and just invite your AB mates :0)

It would be much less stressy Mazie!

I wasn't intending to share the menu but I would be interested to hear from the conservatives eaters what their view is.
I am hideously fussy and I could get a plateful of food from what you suggest.
Thought you wanted cold buffet?

Yep Tambo, just the new pots will be served warm.
I'll come. Just send me an invite!

In terms of salad, on the few buffets I have done (nowhere near in your league EC), I always find a beefsteak tomato, red onion and basil salad goes down a storm.
And you have my sympathy. My "buffet" on 23 July has required sandwiches. For Funks Sake, sandwiches. I give up.
eccles, this is a blast and you can prep it well beforehand. I do it with a gentle horseradish mayo, but I'm working on an orange/watercress/walnut dressing for this summer

You're always welcome Barmaid....just don't bring me any eggs ;-)

I will be serving heritage tomato salad too, just didn't mention it.

Humber, beetroot cured salmon will be one of the canapés :-)

Aaaarghhhh.....sandwiches???

Sounds like a working lunch not a wedding!!!! I feel for you Barmaid!
;x)

scotch eggs, there has to be scotch eggs...
i like giant cous cous in salads, its my new face thing :-) with mint, feta and toms

Hmmm I was wondering about a grain salad, tabbouleh, cous cous or maybe pearl barley.

Not the evilness known as quinoa though, no one should ever be subjected to such nastiness masquerading as food.
Your buffet sounds right up my street, eccles. Cold meat, poached fish, sausage rolls and lovely salads. Scrummy.
Chicken tikka or shashlick x
Curried rice with apple and sultana and other stuff innit, forkin glorious.
Warm potato salad ... with plenty of spring onions in it.

Indian snacky things - mini samosas, bhajis, pakora

Pork Pie ... gotta have a good Pork Pie or three

Mini Spring Rolls (duck for preference) with some Hoi Sin sauce

Home roasted (rare) beef is a winner (the bloodier the better - so that a good go with a defibrillator will get it mooing).

I'm a sucker for good ole Prawn Vollyvents too - with some delicate mustard mayo instead of the overpowering pink gunk you usually get.

Trifle ... Sherry Trifle ... mmmm
Dave, I reckon you'll be plonked firmly in the traditionalist camp with those ideas.
Yep - no trendy green crap for me :)
Home made sausage rolls, with butter puff pastry (bought) and the sausage out of sausages not sausage meat. Dribbles.....
