What does it taste like and do they sell it in the uk?

I've had them in the States, particularly in the South. They taste a bit like gruel or "proper" porridge i.e. made with water, not milk.

No idea if they are available in the UK...
We had grits in............... no it was refried beans, sorry.
Grits are one of those foods that people eat because they haven't got, or can't afford, anything else. (IMHO)
When I hear the word grits, I think of the film My Cousin Vinny, they look disgusting.
Tried them in california, NEVER again...... food of devil's spawn, cosistancy only fit for people with no teeth, no taste & no sense of smell. IMHO
Refried beans aren't much better, either.

Tried them when in Florida, absolutely disgusting, as has been said no taste whatsoever.
Just like coarse wallpaper paste would taste. Tried them once. Not bothered since.
