Wine Of The Week

There appears to be a trend right now among the major supermarkets to feature monovarietal wines as part of their more exclusive ranges. Whether it's Tesco's Finest, Sainsbury's Taste The Difference or Asda's Extra Special, you can find monovarietals such as Viognier, Gruner Veltliner, Chardonnay, Merlot, Shiraz and many more, and I think these specially selected, no nonsense, unblended wines will be a roaring success.

This week I opted for Asda's Extra Special Primitivo , the Italian Variety widely acknowledged to be the forefather of Zinfandel - a grape which originated in Croatia. This is a full-bodied and luscious red and comes crammed with flavours of dark red berries. Currently rolled back to £5, it won't be on the shelves for long.

I don't know about anyone else, but I could just polish off a glass or two right now...
monovarietal? What's that?
Question Author
Wine made from one grape ant not a blend of several grapes.

People will know if they like a Chardonnay, for example. What they might not know is if they will like a wine that's made of Chardonnay, chenin blanc and vermiento , hence why I think the monovarietal that are currently in vogue will do so well.

By the way, if anyone is looking for anything specific such as a medium dry wine or a dessert wine, please let me know and I will endeavour to find something suitable!
