Zamora Californian Zinfadel is a rich and succulent red bursting with layer upon layer of ripe berries and oodles of jamminess. This is a sophisticated wine which can be drunk on its own or ideally partner with lamb in a rich red wine gravy. Zamora Zinfandel is available from M&S for the normal price of £9.99.

Bargain of the week has to be Yellow Tail Cabernet Sauvignon. Yellow Tail wines are the number one imported wine label in the US and, as a long time fan, I am hardly surprised. This wine is smooth, rich and has all the depth you would expect from this is"old faithful" of the grape world. Drink on its own or pair with a rich ragu. Currently available in the Co-Op for £4.99. Hurry, it won't last.

It was probably a clearance line, JJ.

That sounds lovely, Heathfiled. Lindemans is a good label.

We're not wine drinkers in this house, but a wine-drinking friend of mine has said very complimentary things about Zinfadel. However I don't know whether it's the one you mention.

Looks like the predictive text on my phone has inserted random words. Hopefully the Ed will edit it.

Zinfandel is my favourite type of red wine, Alba.
I did have to read it twice just to make sure it wasn't in the wrong category lol
Wine and petrol do NOT belong in the same sentence:)

I stick to Black Tower and Mateus Rose at Xmas time. Boring I know
Question Author
I think Mateus Rose is available in a fizz now.
mmm have pondered on the MR in a fizz whilst making a cuppa.
I don't think I like the sound of that tho.
Question Author
Fizz is typically lower in calories than normal wine.
Saw yesterday Morrisons have Lindeman's Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon at £4.49.
I'll try again this week, HB.

I biked along to Waitrose to get one of your last suggestions (Gamekeeper's Reserve, I think?), and they didn't have it at our store.

Eminently quaffable, NM!
Question Author
Indeed, and I daresay all the more during the winter months, with a lovely smorgesbord...
Hello NoMercy,
Try Cape Bay Reserve. It's a Western Cape South African red, made using a Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault and Petit Verdot grape. It describes itself as having a blackcurrant and cherry flavour. On sale at Sainsbury's at £8.99 a bottle, but 3 bottles for £12.00, buy 6 bottles and get an extra 5% discount! Resultant price £3.80 a bottle! Would definitely go with a rich ragu! Eminently quaffable.
Sorry to break the thread, but do you know where I could buy an Austalian wine called Tramminer? (I think that's the name)
'Traminer' perhaps? It's the old name that's sometimes still used for Gewürztraminer. Google 'australian gewürztraminer' and you'll find a couple of UK suppliers.
Question Author
Lovely, DocHH... I will definitely give it a try.

Tenrec... Heathfield sounds right about it being a Gewürztraminer. It's available from most wine suppliers and Tesco do a good one in their finest range, if my memory serves me correctly.
I love a good red wine. What would you say is a good red that I could check out. Thanks
Question Author
What sort of red do you prefer? Light, medium or full bodied?

How much do you want to spend?

To drink on its own or pair with food (and if so, what food)?
I rely on Big Kahuna from Tesco,. It's fruity and magnificent. Gets better after opening it for a couple of days! Tastes like a home made blackberry.
Anyone tried the new flavoured beers, aimed at the female market?
Question Author
I think I've seen that one, Sir Ale. I too find that a bottle of red can taste better after it has been open a couple of days.
