Puklavec And Friends Slovenian Sauvignon Blanc, currently £6.74 from £8.99.

Let us all salute Waitrose for being the first UK supermarket to stock a Slovenian wine. Puklavec and his friends, as the label kindly informs, picked the grapes near the town of Stajerska on the 6th and 23rd Septemeber, 2009. The wine has an intense bouquet - more intense than your average Sauv Blanc - and mouthwatering flavours of tropical fruits which is given further complexity with a good dose of minerality. It is one of the most concentrated and pure wines I have ever tasted and the overall result is a truly dynamic white with great length; a wine you or your friends won't forget in a hurry! I never thought I'd say this, but this magnificent vino leaves its NZ counterparts firmly in the shade.

Hmmmm.... I wonder if Puklavec is on Facebook...???

You`ll like the Pepperwood Grove Zinfandel. I don`t usually like Zinfandel but I tried Pepperwood Grove about 10 years ago and spent ages trying to track it down. I think it used to be one that was aimed at the catering sector. I don`t think there`s a Morrisons near me, otherwise I`d check it out myself.
ok,tell you what, i'll swing by morri's this avo and see if they have it on. if they do, i'll give you an update tomorrow.

Blimey, I didn't realise Pepperwood were that established in the UK. Morrisons are retailing it at £7.99. Thanks for that, 237SJ!
nom, are you walking up and down the aisles or summink?!
Question Author
I have a nose for wine and a photographic memory! lol
You`re welcome Nom. Enjoy (rude not to) :-)
Question Author
I'm really looking forward to it now. :-)

DT, what's the Haut Poujeaux like? Or have you not tried it before?
Question Author
Well the Zinfandel was nice, but not so nice that I would feel inclined to buy it again and again. A truly unforgettable Zinfandel would have layer upon layer of jamminess with mouthwatering flavours of slightly underripe fruits. The Pepperwood Grove was quite full-bodied and complex but lacking that je ne sais quoi. Probably better with food.
I have nothing to report this week NoM but keep it up as this is a useful Section to have n AB !

Thanks, Red. I've been looking through Waitrose's wine book and I've already decided to try a red from their Kosher range this weekend. My mother's coming down with me so she can meet the inlaws, so I imagine the wine will pretty much be flowing all weekend. :-)

I'm also delighted that I've now found a supermarket that sells Picpoul de Pinet (Picpoul Blanc). I tried a glass at Cafe Rouge and I was smitten!
Most of the Wines that I buy are New World wines ie California, Chile,Argentina,South Africa, Australia and New Zealand etc. Dont tend to buy European wines much
Question Author
I too prefer the wines of the New World. I love French whites but I'm not keen on their reds. However, I am rather partial to Spanish wines and the rest of the world is waking up to their modern offerings.

Australia/NZ is probably my favourite wine corner of the globe.
touraine amboise, tasted and bought within a kilometer or two of where it was made. if you've never tasted this wine NoM then you own it to yourself to give it a go.
i agree about french reds and much prefer italian reds, have also had some scrumptious bulgarian reds.
Theres a nice Rioja on offer in sainsburys at the moment.

Dave.
did you make this wine---great advert
One exception being that Domaine de Tara from the Luberon - a very different wine from la Belle F. and I will buying a couple of bouteilles tomorrow.

Having said that, I do love the great Bordeaux and some of the Burgundies like a Fixin.....trouble is that the prices are going awol because of the bl--dy Chinese getting too interested and all for a status symbol - the way the XO cognac market went.
I like a nice St Emillion or a Margaux, and when im visiting my parents i always bring a few really really good bottles back amongst the cheaper ones.

Dave.
agree with you.

which Rioja - your page went to the opening site. I tried their Altivo last week which was comme ci, comme ca.
Just got the bog std Bergerac from them tonight, two for ten - nothing brill but it will slide down the gullet.
Sorry Dt, Campo Viejo reserva.
