We are all familiar enough aren't we, with stories of people who lose weight only to out it all back on again. Well a couple of years ago, with your support I lost 3 stone. In 2013 I lost another half a stone and last year I maintained about the same weight all year. But this Christmas I accepted every chocolate offered and managed to gain a whopping 6lbs. If it wasn't...

Twice I've typed this out and twice I've lost it. Congratulations Wendilla and Jomlette. It must be wonderful J. to finally have captured the elusive BMI and got it where you want it. I gather now that you want to get as far away from the tipping point as possible.
I forgot to ask how its going with you Maydup?
Well done xstitcher ex and jomlette . Bread is my downfall so have cut done on that .
Tip: if you use bread for toast use Lidl's toast bread which is smaller.
Indeed well done the lot of you.

I'm sure if I had scales it would be showing a loss of 13 stone, but unfortunately I'm awaiting delivery :-)
That is indeed good news plus that FINALLY you've taken the plunge and ordered new scales OG. Let's now hope that they live up to your expectations...not an easy job ha ha
Hello everyone and well done to the losers. Thanks for best answer AB Auntie, that really spurred me on this week and I'm delighted to report a 4lb loss.

Thankfully some pounds are easier to lose than others and these were clearly temporary pounds which have gone back to where the came from. I have gone back to eating no cakes, biscuits, bread or chocolate, and taking care with portions. I feel better again and not too hard dome by either!

If you can crack a bread free breakfast and lunch, you really can make a difference. Yesterday I had cereal and soup, today was yoghurt with fruit (at the crack of dawn as I had a breakfast meeting) and a small portion of cauli/brocolli bake for lunch.
For Maydup :-p this is what they are like.

What is most offputting is that it scored highly in the Amazon customer reviews, and it is absolutely typical that now I look at the manufacturer's website there are just 2 scathing ones detailing the very issue I'm trying to avoid. I just don't believe life sometimes.
Look at it positively OG and think that it's just grumpy old gits that have nothing better to do with their time that have written the negs.
Well done you Maydup. I take it there is great rejoicing in your home too :-))
Well done Maydup .yes I agree with you about the bread and cakes .
Well done all the losers. Did anyone learn anything new from the Horizon diet programme last night? The only thing I learnt was that if you fall off the wagon get back on it straight away, and don't feel like a failure cos that will make you eat more.
The Horizon Diet programme did show that gym work is tough and easily matched by everyday chores!
Yes, but you do everyday chores everyday anyway. So how does that help?
It burns calories and if you eat less and do more chores...everyday diet plan!
Yes, I know everyday chores burns calories. But you are doing everyday chores every day as a matter of necessity anyway. So it didn't really make sense when they implied you don't need to do extra exercise, like cycling, because you're burning calories doing everyday things as a matter of course.
Yes I saw it. Made a lot of sense.

But I tend to think I am not as extreme as the folk shown. If I know I've broken the diet for the day I may relax a bit thinking I'll pick it up tomorrow, but the extent to which their subjects crammed in the calories afterwards was gobsmacking. What were they thinking ?

It's worth noting that other TV science programmes have shown that a minute or two a day high impact exercise can, if you have the right genes, be as good as spending hours in the gym !

That said I really don't believe exercise makes a massive difference to weight loss. I suppose every little helps but it's more for health and maintenance and the like. Worth doing if you can find the enthusiasm, but one still has to control the energy input :-)

BTW I also read recently "they" reckon ensuring you do, do some exercise, a simple daily 20 minute walk will do, has a large effect on longevity.
I don't recall the detail Marijn but I think it was a case of the energy expended over time. That if you do, do the chores, then you got more out of that than not doing them and performing specific exercises instead. But I'd have to watch again (I was doing other things at the time it was on so only half watching it) to take in the details.
Yes OG, but we do our chores anyway, so that doesn't really help anything. And yes, you're right, they did say that exercising after the weight loss will help to keep it off. I've made a big mistake by keeping off the scales :-(. I've just been on them, and seen that I've put on six pounds over Xmas, which makes me the heaviest I've ever been. For most of my adult life I was the lowest side of 'healthy weight on the BMI scale, and now I'm at the very top end of 'healthy'. I'm more than I was when I started on this thread when it started a few years ago. Am I allowed to feel despondent :-(
You're allowed to have 10 minutes despondency on the first day, 5 the next, then no more.

On a lighter note I've had a parcel arrive. Will have to try the contents tomorrow.
