married couples not sleeping together

what is your view on this? Last night myself and a group of work colleagues had a few drinks and were talking about sex (as you do!) One of them said that her and her hubby slept in seperate bedrooms and had done for quite some time, in fact enough time so their 6 year old son thinks it is 'normal' for mummy and daddy to have their own rooms just like him!! I tried not to act shocked but I guess I was. As much as my hubby annoys me snoring sometimes we have only spent the night apart if one of us has been ill. We asked her about how she had sex and she said she rarely did and they lived a bit like brother and sister and barely kissed properly. It got me thinking if they had a future really but she said they loved each other so it was fine. What do you think? Is this normal?

I think a lot of couples don't share a bed - nothing abnormal about it at all. I agree with Ethel on this. Sleeping in the same bed or not has nothing to do with a couple's sex life.

It's up to the couple and whatever they are happy with. In some cultures husband and wives never sleep together.

well I am surprised!! I take it all back now! We did laugh quite a bit about it too so now I can tell her she is normal after all!

ah yes, I recall Woody Allen was famous for living several blocks away from Mia Farrow despite being in a relationship with her.

Until he married her adopted daughter, of course.

It tends to get like that. All my relationships end up so we're like brother and sister. Not sure wh, guess I have problems with relationships.

I'm not married and dont live with anyone but i'm pretty sure that i couldnt share my bed. i am such a violent sleeper i end up rolling out of bed and i wake up with cuts and bruises swelled ankles and stuff becasue i cant keep still, when i was younger and went camping with my sister we sleptnext to each other in a tent after the first night she tried to make me slee outside as i kept kicking her in my sleep.

Different things suit different people. Im not an overly affectionate person, I would actually prefer to sleep alone. But my partner and I share a bed, but he knows I dont like to be hugged etc... Everyone is different I guess what works for some doesnt for others.

i know a woman who helps at the local toddler group, she said her youngest daughter who's 5 sleeps with her in the double bed- the husband sleeps in the other bedroom and the son who's 8 sleeps in his own room.
she said its been like that for years.
maybe they are using the daughter as an excuse so they don't have to sleep together?
