Nervous problem

I have a very annoying problem and I need help with it quickly.

Everytime I get nervous about anything I always feel like gagging and I have a dentist check up coming up very soon and I always get nervous about it so can anyone tell me a way I can control it.

nerves often make people feel nauseous, i get that too with panic attacks
Ginger will help with the nausea (ginger tea, ginger jam whatever) and those travel wrist strap thingies are worth a try

I never start to feel sick, I just always feel like gagging. Its normally the other way round for people but not me.

You could ask your dentist to prescribe a sedative to be taken shortly before your appointment. My sister has to have valium prescribed whenever she has a check-up due.You would have to pay for a private prescription for anything they did offer though so it would add to the cost of the treatment unfortunately.

good idea daffy, maybe your GP would be sympathetic enough to prescibe you a low dose valium for that purpose?

Fabemmy - me too!

YAS, someone else who suffers this terrible affiliation.

My partner thinks I am mad when I start to gag before venturing somewhere on my own (oe a long flight for a course), or somewhere I have never been before, and yes the dentist too to an extent!

In fact, if things aren't going well at work, or I am worried about work I can be heard gagging in the bathroom 1st thing doing my teeth etc, or in shower, sometimes so bad my eyes are streaming, but it's almost like I have to to release my angst and get my worries out or something.....

It can't be very good for us, and I was worse (a lot worse) when I smoked, but been stopped almost 3 yrs now, and still do it so know it's just a nervous thing.

Very strange, I try so hard not to, but sometimes the feeling overcomes me so bad and I can't help but cough and gag will I feel better if that makes sense!

I also, have a seriously bad gag reflex (don't laugh), which affects me when I am at dentist purely because of the instruments and sprays, and tastes and sounds. The whole thing makes me gag !!

Hi roosi
Im glad someone understands what it is.
I never seem to gag when im relexed and dont have worries. It gets me down sometimes because I have NO CONTROL over it at all. I even gag when im talking about it. Everyone thinks its in my mind and maybe it is but it dosnt feel like it.

how do you control it. I try to relax but when I am relaxed i start worrying if its going to start up again because I never know when its going to start up.

Yep, sounds just like mine, although I can make myself gag a lot of the time for no reason, if I am getting ready in the spare room sometimes and can SEE the cat litter tray in the corner, its clean, regularly cleaned - not by me I hasten to add - and this makes me gag to the point of no return. there is nothing to gag at - nothing and I know this, although it's unreasonable, I CAN'T HELP IT!!!

Partner thinks it's to get outta cleaning it LOL! It's soooo not!

Sometimes I gag if too much fresh air gets into my lungs - lol, yes it's true that#s another one that can be mighty embarassing. Also, if I smell something really rank like if someone has bad breath or something, this can set me off whereby I have to gatg in front of folk - NOT GOOD! especially is it's the person who's got the bad breath ha ha ha!!

Honestly, I can gag and gag fo no reason, but until I have gagged one last mighty gag, I can't stop sometimes I can control it, but not often, and like you I TRY to relax when I feel it coming on. Only thing that seems to help is a sip of water!

Not a fine thing, but I really struggle to manage it too!!!!

Other than that folks - NO I am not mad, just a little bit odd what with all this gagging.........I would LOVE to stop it too, as I say my partner looks at me gone out when I start as if to say, god your crying cos your going to be away from home for a week, and gagging uncontrollably - must be a right sight to anyone watching LOL LOL LOL!

I find that very cold water eases it a little for a few minutes and in them minutes I try to think of noting just so my mind is clear and it does help but then I start to think of something and it starts up again. I have already had to cancel a dentist appointment because it was so bad and I couldnt physically open my month and there is no point in going to the dentist if I couldnt open my month.

i have never had this before and I dont know what caused it to start
