Barium baby update

Just wanted to let the people who have been answering my questions about my baby girl know, that she had her Barium meal this morning, and although she didn't like it and tried to spit it all out the Docs were impressed at how relaxed she was (more than I was anyway!)

Unfortunately the diagnosis of Duodenal Stenosis has turned out to be wrong, she has reflux and slow gastric motility but no narrowings/blockages.

I'm gutted (pardon the pun) I thought she had something they could fix but now we're back at square one. Unsure whether or not we should be weaning her soon. Don't know why she's so sick or what happens next.

She is begining to get worse - losing and not gaining weight and constantly showing signs of mild dehydration.

There was talk of more tests but we have no definite answers or appointments. I just don't know where to go from here and I feel as though I'm running out of time as she is now 5 months old, and I had been strongly advised against giving her more milk or any solids.

oh well back to the GP I think!

Thanks for the update k8 and I am glad that the diagnosis of duodenal stenosis was not confirmed.

I'm sorry to hear that your little girl has been through the mill kate.

I hope things improve for her soon & that you & your family can relax more.

Thank you for letting us know how baby bailey got on. After reading what you have told us it sounds as if you are feeling quite desperate for a solution but these things take time. Being the loving Mum you are of course you want your little one to be well, but quite a lot of babies with reflux and slow gastric motility can be over 12 months before they grow out of it. You really should go back to your doctor and discuss this further and ask him to explain what he intends doing next. Sometimes anti-spasmodics help so he may prescribe some while you are waiting to see the gastroenterologist for your follow up.
