Cramps during pregnancy.

I'm now 5 weeks pregnant. I've been experiencing mild cramps since before my period was due but understand this is normal. I usually get quite painful periods so im used to quite painful cramps but i'm not sure if its normal for them to be that painful that during pregnancy? It's not unbearable its just very achey and gets worse depending on how im laying. However I havn't experienced any bleeding and everything else is fine. I assume its just more painful because I tend to get painful periods anyway. Is this normal?

I dont want to alarm you, but it could be the start of a miscarraige, I would get yourself down the hospital asap and get checked out, just to be on the safe side....is this your 1st pregnancy?

hello again emma! :)

I would say that unless the cramps are very painful and /or combined with blood loss then its more than likely just the usual ligaments and muscles relaxing.

The hormones in your body soften all ligaments in preparation for the sudden growth that your body will experience and this is often felt as aches and pains and we can notice them more when quiet and sat in certain postions.

You can though, give your local hospitals early pregnan cy unit a quick call for further advice. They will take some info and give you advice.

I had the aches with my first and worse with my second.

If you experience any severe pain or bleeding then call your GP or EPU asap.

Firstly, stop worrying. Get yourself to a doctor tomorrow just to ease your mind. I didn't realise I was pregnant and had the usual pangs of a period about to start. I was just off to play squash so to be on the safe side I inserted a tampon. I felt silly a few days later when I realised my mistake

try not to worry hun, it sounds to me like its just normal aches and pains. Because you are thinking about it all the time it tends to make it worse. Try and rest more, put your feet up you will be tired more now and you have a good excuse for being lazy! Any pain is usually your bodies way off telling you to slow down. Take care xxx

emma,

a quick search on the other board will show you that youre not alone with some aches and pains, they are not always bad news.

Take it easy, and dont take any medication for the cold without checking it first. Decongestants are a huge no in pregnancy so be careful what you take

Hi Emma
I am 7 weeks now and have been looking at the same cramps as you, they feel like trapped wind but been having them and they have bee painful. I spoke with my doctor when I was confirmed pregnant yesterday and she said this was perfectly normal as the uterus and muscles stretch to accommodate the baby. My sister had this so unless you get spotting or the cramps become very painful on one side and you get no rest just from lying down, please do not fear. Nice to know there is someone else going through this! Ellora
