the heart can enlarge after certain trauma but it can indeed improve an awful lot!! I have an enlarged heart! I was born with a congenital heart disease called transposition of the Great Arteries which has greatly effected the things I was able to do as a child. to put the story short I became really ill when i was 14 and had to leave school and was even in a wheelchair to go up town. I was put on alot of medication and was told the only thing they can do for me would be a transplant at about the age of 21! I am 30 now and have not needed the transplant. I no longer need the wheelchair and i have lead a virtually normal life since about 16 onwards. It has been the medication they put me on that has considerably taken the strain off my heart to such a degree that it has been able to heal itself to a certain extent!! Has your dad been on any medication?? Hope this has helped!! Here's to the future!!X

Hi DONNA1458
Could also be that your Dad may have suffered from High Blood Pressure at one time and they now have that under control, which would cause the heart to enlarge.
Quite a lot of Athletes suffer from an enlarged heart and quite often, the heart does revert back to more or less it's normal size.
Hope your Dad is making a good recovery.

Have Your Say

Should the over 70's be made to retake their driving test?

Yes. The new licence should have to be renewed every 2 or 5 years.

Yes, but the new license should be permanent.

Yes, but only if they have been in an accident.
