What is that causes those twinkly dancing lights in you eyes - I usually get it if I've had a severe coughing fit

it's a 'false' light show caused by direct pressure to retina rod andcones. you can force it by closing your eyes and pressing slightly hard in a corner you will see 'light' on the opposite side to where you pressed.. don't press too hard :-)
Lightshows can also be caused by retinitis pigmentosa and detachment of the retina.
