The criteria is:

1. No planes overhead
2. Not near any towns or cities
3. No rowdiness or crime hotspot
4. Away from any motorways or trunk roads

The nearest village would be sufficient?

you'll get good and bad in all areas, can't give you specific towns/villages,
have a look at Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Kent, Suffolk, Norfolk.

I should have added 'away from the coast'
not in England i'm afraid, that is paved over with more and more out of town shopping malls, housing estates. Many of our little charming villages are full of people who use it as a second home, so if you are looking for nirvana in England then i honestly don't think you will find it.
No planes overhead, crime, or motorways, is there anywhere on the planet like that.
Scotland has some nice remote areas, lovely scenery, and maybe crime free, who knows.
Arundel West Sussex
Cornwall is full of out of towners who want their little bit of peace and quiet, ask DT, grockels who flock in and spend their money and flock out again, back to their city lives. Having spent some time in Cornwall i would add that it's a beautiful county, but not one i would settle in now.
presumably around Chipping Norton, where people like David Cameron go, or Cheshire, where many of the nation's wealthy go.
Arundel is lovely, but not sure about the crime free or plane free, seeing Gatwick is only a stone's throw away

Just want a bit of piece and quiet. Even some of the quietest places in Norfolk and Suffolk are ruined by the US jets screaming overhead on practice missions.
Reading your criteria.....you want to live as a hermit.........would you confirm that assumption in order to answer your question.
found the same when we travelled around Norfolk. As to the rest of England, it's either so remote no one goes there, how do you get around? Or so damn expensive you can't afford to live there.

Definately not Squad, even villages have people living in them.
you should bear in mind the pitfalls of living in an isolated place

*poor quality broadband
*lack of local amenities
*distance to doctors, dentists and hospitals. also schools if you have children
*less opportunities to make new friends
*Distance from existing family and friends
im in norfolk and rarely hear any us jets.
does it have to be England.
LOL OK....then try the South Lakes e.g Crosthwaite.

There is a motorway away about 4 miles away....but don'y let that put you off.

In the middle of Wales or up a Scottish mountain.
Cazz is spot on, with the loss of services that one will need at some point, if you drive then fine, if not then you are stuffed.
I am looking for a new place too, my criteria includes no planes and no risk of flooding
:-)//;-) Just having a smile to myself recalling the comment of an American to his friend as he looked out of his plane window which was on approach to Heathrow, passing over Windsor Castle:

"What fool would build Windsor Castle under a flight path."

LOL
