The thought is that the earlier a girl starts her periods the earlier she will start menopause. I started with symptoms at 45. I believe in doing what it takes to make things easier for your self. Hurts are great.
Tinks, my mother gave birth to my brother when she was 47 - she thought her lack of periods was menopause, but it wasn't!
Brinjal, I believe it's the opposite.....early to start periods, older menopause. And later to start periods, earlier menopause...in general.
As has been said, the best indication is to ask your mum when hers was.

Mum still gets periods and shes 46...need to ask my gran!

Started mines at 12 xxx
my mum was 34 and I remember we treated a woman of 28 with hormones to try and stop it happening TICK TOCK indeed
My mum had a hysterectomy in her late 30's so we have no idea when her menopause would have occurred, her periods started when she was 16, I was 11 so no similarities there at all.
Started at ten, (terrible let me tell you, especially as I knew nought and I reckon my mother knew nought too) and finished around fifty (thank goodness, no more period pains). Although it has been replaced by all sorts of other pains.
I was nine when I started and after years of problems finally had a hysterectomy at 40

It's no wonder some people refer to it as 'the curse'.
Its the curse of the Devil!!!!
RATTER - you can't say that - you don't believe in a God, so it follows you cannot therefore believe in a Devil (although I still agree in essence)
i have the contraceptive depot and haven't had periods for 5 years - i don't know why more people don't try this method of contraception, cause it's great! a jab in the bum every three months...and sorted. lovely! x
It is a curse, I always said that if blokes had periods, they'd have done something about it by now :-)
im 54 and still no signs of the menopause, was told by the doctor to think myself lucky
ha i bet that doctor was a bloke

Lcg im scared to try the jag or implant incase of weight gain!??? Xxxx
I had the depo and was fine on it for ages them boom, put on a stone in six weeks. A mate of mine who is very very fit and active and built like twiggy went on it and within 2 months she looked like she had had implants. Her husband loved it but she didn't and neither of them loved the homicidal tempers that went with it.
I should say that contrary to the common comment that increased calorie intake is the cause, my mate lives on healthy crap and while I am not as virtuous as her, even the doc agreed that in that case my diet both quantity and quality was not to blame.
