Hi Sqad, quick update on OH - admitted to hospital friday, had another set of bloods taken plus xray. Bloods came back with abnormal lft level. Having scan this afternoon so will possibly know more tomorrow. Still very yellow, and has spells of discomfort with acid reflux. Still in good spirits though!

Hi Sqad - results are in and to use her own words - it's a firkin big gallstone. Have to wait for doctors rounds this morning to see what he intends doing. I'm told best resolution is to blast them with lasers so let's hope she gets it done asap - she's missing all the fun with the grandkids.
Hi welsh xx

Sorry to read Mrs Welsh is still in hospital but hopefully she'll be out very soon to enjoy most of the week with the family. xx

Just a quick update again Sqad - blood tests came back yesterday showing slight improvement and OH said that doctor was considering endoscopy. I would have thought endoscopy would be pointless as that would go down to stomach not liver or am I talking total bo!!ocks?
welshy.....talking "botox".....;-)

The endoscopy will go into the duodenum and visualise the opening of the common bile duct.......to exclude problems there.

LFT`s improving is a good sign, but I still think that liver biopsy will give one the answer.
I had gallstone remove with an endoscopy - one before I had the gallblader removed and again after it had been removed.

Cheers, Sqad and Jim - now reassured. I hope we get another good result today after the consultant has been to see her. She seems to think that if she has a couple of days showing improvement that they will discharge her from hospital and call her back to outpatients clinic.

Hi Sqad, Latest on OH is that she is still in hospital and it would seem the docs are baffled by what is causing the problems. They have told her this morning that they have had to send her bloods to London to find out what the virus is. So it seems that she is going to be in for a while longer yet. Still talking about taking a biopsy but are not doing anything about it. Why is it taking so long to find out what the fudge is going on?
WELSHY.....this may sound odd, but I think that all is not TOO bad. It sounds as though it is a viral hepatitis and if the liver cells keep "leaking" enzymes into the blood stream they may consider putting her on steroids.

Why are they hanging back on liver biopsy?
It has it`s complications and one of them is internal bleeding which may be difficult to control in a jaundiced patient.

Trust me......all will be well.
Welshy, sorry to hear about your wife's illness. Hope all is sorted for her soon and she's back home with you real soon. All the best to her recovery.

What her doctors need is a good dose of Sqad to fix her right and proper. :-)

I do trust you, sqad, and we are grateful for your input. She did say that she feels 'washed out' all the time and I am beginning to get concerned for her mental wellbeing since she has been taken off her antidepressants - or could the two be going hand in hand?
Question Author
Appreciate the good wishes, society. I do pass on everyones good wishes to her and I know she appreciates them too.
Welshy......she is p1ssed off being in hospital, with all the blood tests, no diagnosis and that is far more likely to be the cause, rather than being off her antidepressants.

She is getting expert care.

Hi Sqad, Latest on Oh is that the consultant has been to see her and he is pretty certain she has hepatitis e. She is having a scan on monday and will have a biopsy taken but don't know when that will be. He also said that she will need to visit outpatients for at least the next 2 years :-(
Welshy.....excellent news.

Any talk of steroids?
Question Author
Yep, and something else but she can't recall what. As a side issue, will any of us need testing for this?
Welshy...is that yep for steroids?

Probably the whole family will be tested for Hepatitis B virus (HBV)

It´s all looking good Welshy.
Question Author
Sorry sqad, yes to steroids. why would we need testing for hep b if she has e? I am due for review for my statins so will be having bloods taken as a matter of course next week. Will everybody who has come into contact with her need testing?
Steroids will be excellent treatment, which will follow the biopsy and scan.

Not sure who will need testing but certainly the family.

There is a guy on AB called Lazygun who is, I am sure a chemical pathologist....give him a FAO Lazygun who will give you better advice.
Sorry...Hepatitis E....so they have isolated the virus (HEV)

Off to club now and then Health Club.........see you later.
