I've recently had an accident and have 3 broken ribs. I don't normally have hiccoughs but since my ribs hurt I get hiccoughs 4 or 5 times a day. And they hurt. Is there a reason why I'm getting them now?

I would imagine, as hiccoughs are caused by an involuntary contraction of the diaphragm, that the rib injury has somehow caused an irritation of a nerve. It's too much of a coincidence if you didn't get them before the accident.
I would think it will settle of its own accord, but if not go and check with your GP. Hope it settles!
