Why is it when I hear Martin Roberts' northern accent on Homes under the Hammer, I really like it, but when I hear Tess Daly saying 'Judges' she really grates on my nerves. I wont mention her wringing her hands when she talks to camera, or touching all the contestants on their shoulder or trying to grab their hands after their dance ... I like Claudia though!!

Oh and I wonder why Bruno keeps touching his nose .....??
OK - accents vary depending on whether you like the person or not.

I adore the Welsh accent, unless it is being spoken by weather dolly and possible android Sian Lloyd.

Similarly, I like a nice Irish brogue, unless it comes from under the dodgy hair transplant of James Nesbitt.

I can never hear what Tess Daly is saying, when I see her, I get a loud rushing noise in my ears, and everything goes black, and I wake up on the lounge carpet with the present Mrs Hughes yelling at me.
Bruno touches his nose as a nervous reflex action - that's why Len gives his score and then taps the table with the flat of his hand.

My favourite accents are French and Southern Ireland. Love the people from Southern Ireland as well.
we've just had an engineer in who had a really strong yorkshire accent, i was mesmorised
Has anyone heard a Caribbean type accent from a Channel 4 lady announcer? Ghastly............
I love Tess and her accent.
Tess says judges in a pseudo posh northern accent that's why it grates smurf, I totally agree with you.
Hallelujah smurfchops! Thank goodness someone else has picked up on the 'judges' word/pronunciation it drives me insane!!
(I'm northern) but not from any of the heavy accented regions like Bury/Bolton/Wigan
I....... on the other hand (you like Claudia) I detest the childlike presenting between the two of them. Only in my opinion of course!

The only 'on TV' accent that annoys me is Matt Baker's, cannot stand the man.

Baldrick dont start me off on Matt Baker... Oh well ok then ... Up the celebs rear ends like a schoolboy, keeps touching his nose, looking at script, and that inane false laugh which switches to serious in a millisecond. Send him back to the farm. Or Blue Peter. And his nose us wonky as well.
The worst accent must be that of Neil Nunes, a continuity announcer on Radio 4. He is obviously from a Caribbean background, but he is trying to do a 'posh' RP accent, and the result is a sort of strangulated gargle. How he ever got a job on the UK's premier speech channel is a mystery.
Some northern accents, like London, for example, can be quite grating. But others are soft and attractive.
Well my accent often brings a reaction, mostly favourable but maybe they're just being kind.Americans and the Cornish seem to love it.

Heavy Bolton :-)
What is wrong with a northern accent? We are all human. What's different about a cockney accent or a Liverpool one. I feel quite angry about this post.
Cockney accents are quite northern.
I love that we live in this tiny country, but there's such a great diversity of accents. I know obviously larger countries have a disparity in their accents too, but do they have such a wide range in such a small space?

I was once on a train with a man who had quite a strong Somerset accent. Some Americans in our carriage asked if he was speaking Cockney.
Why should one accent be deemed superior to another?
So, say ...

Americans who live in Florida, and the Mid West (1,500 miles apart) ...

Sound more like each other than

Brits who live in Surrey, and the Midlands (150 miles apart)
Some Americans in our carriage asked if he was speaking Cockney.

I'm not surprised at that, Cloverjo !.
