Ear wax

I've had problems with the build up of wax and consequent hearing impairment for many years now.
When I notice things are getting worse again I drop some almond oil in for a week or so then make an appointment with my health centre to have the offending residue washed out with water.
To try and cut down the time that I'm completely deaf in the treated ear I'm asking if anyone knows of a safe alternative to the almond oil which might act quicker in softening the wax.
Look forward to any info, thanks.

I've tried branded stuff like Otex in the past and had some discomfort as a result. I had wondered if a different "weight" of oil would have a quicker effect so thanks for your suggestions so far.
Sqad, do you mean there's no real alternative to almond oil or something else, you didn't give much to go on. :)

That was your question and "No" was my answer.

You mention "branded" drops causing trouble and this is due to the fact that many contain turpentine which may act as an irritant.

An irritant, quite.

Many thanks to all, I'll persevere. :)
Douglas, your practice nurse should advise you what to use, in the days running up to your irrigation appointment.

Boxtops! Are you suggesting I could plant tatties in there? :)
It helps if you SLIGHTLY warm the olive oil before you use it by standing the dropper bottle in a cup of warm water for a few minutes.
Warm olive as already advised is still the best,60yrs experience.
LOL no douglas, it's the technical term - ear irrigation!!

I'll cancel the howkers. :)
