Dachshunds

I know that they're digging dogs! But one of our Dachsies spends much of his time traversing our lawn, sniffing for something then digging it up and eating it. It must be some sort of grub or other creature. As a consequence our lawn looks a bit ravaged! What can I put down to dissuade him from doing this? Would pepper powder do it?

Thanks in advance for your advice!
