i have developed severe arthritis in both knees, always been geedy, and after looking on the net have seen a myriad of non-drug reliefs and miracle cures. being wise enough to know most of these are useless i ask if anyone has knowledge of anything that might help?

know people who use glucosanamine, and devils claw (herbal remedy), and they swear by that.

must be so painful for you.. hope you find something that helps

xx

ps. what has you doctor suggested?
I am a medical student but as everyone on AB knows I pay no attention to my lectures and know very little about anything.Sorry can't help. Unless it is a question about skin.I know EVERYTHING about skin.

osteo arthritis or rheumatiod arthritis?

i think it is just individual as different things help different people. I have severe ra, and people have always said to me "dont eat tomatoes or grapefruit" but ive never found they affect me - it might be worth while you trying some of the more well known "alternatives" like cod liver oil or glucosamine

i found that acupuncture was very useful in improving my mobility and decreasing pain, but whether it would work for other people, who can say? I also had some bowen technique which i didnt find helpful at all. The main thing that helps me is drugs!

yes acopuncture is good too...plus hydortherapy... think you have to access that via your gp or physio though?

Re glucosamine: i discovered through researching this for my parents that apparently it can have some very positive results but i believe only in liquid form. The tablets are much cheaper but they contain the 'wrong' type and too small a quantity in any case.

I could be wrong... it was a while ago. But i am sure the liquid stuff was the thing to go for.

I have had a form of RAwhich burnt itself out left me withOA whole body.
I have tried loads of these various "miracle cures" .
You have to take them for a long time before you will feel any benefit if at all.If the synovial fluid in your joints is wearing away then nothing can replace it . Cod liver oil is the best stuff to take and don't waste your money on all these other remedies.
Eat sensibly (low fat)
Keep your weight down to take pressure off the joints.
Drink plenty of water.
Take moderate exercise every day ..eg walking ,swimming.
Above all keep moving .
Talk to your GP..he will give you the best advice.
