Genuine question, no stupid answers required, thanks.

If I flush my goldfish down the toilet, will they survive?

For goodness sake.. folks can't have much going on in life if they can get so excitable about goldfish!

Why would anyone want to do that................. Cruel even to a fish.

Wow! Such high emotions for... er... goldfish.

Well, you'll be pleased to hear, pussnboots is correct, and said fish are swimming around in the pond, as opposed to floating on the surface.

And yes, I do have other pets. Jeez, why don't you hang me. Clearly it's the crime of the century.

Of course they are hun!

Utter rubbish. Most fish that are well acclimatised to the lower temperatures we are having will be in a state of semi hibernation. Any fish swimming close to the surface now will be taken out by herons but on the bright side at least that is nature taking it's course.

'Such high emotions for... er... goldfish.'

Er yes! A life is a life and when you take an animal in to your care you should, as I have said before be prepared to care for that animal to the best of your ability.
You may have even committed an offence...

God help your other animal when they become ill, old or injured, what will you do then, toss it into the trash? Grab a new one?
Lucky we don't do that to people when they 'break' isn't it!!!!
Not high emotions at all BS, just kindness and compassion for living creatures who are totally dependant on us to do the right thing by them. Personally, I'd rather be like that than like you any day of the week.

Good for you.

I agree, good for me.
Baby-Sham, all the above overlooks the fact that millions of anglers torture even more millions of harmless and inoffensive wild fish every weekend. But that's OK it's sport.
I recall reading a thread when you were toying with the idea of getting fish. Much of the advice was advising against you doing it......you've just proven many of us right :-(

Did anyone suggest stick insects Eccles?
jomifl... all of the above has nothing to do with fishing as a sport.

Feel free to start a thread on that and I will join in the debate there too.

divegirl, at least she asked.
the dish are alive and well, so no one need report BS to the RSPCA.
Question Author
Oh, please do report me if it bothers you that much.
You can also report the park ranger at the same time, as he was the one who helped me commit said "crime".

Seriously, get a life....
Question Author
And for the record, Anne, that was not directed at you.

dish ? fish. BS I was joking :)
Baby, you know I am mild mannered - what amazes me the most is that you did not anticipate such a backlash to your question.

I hope the fish do thrive in their new location.
crossed posts, good. I thought for a minute you thought I was serious, even as an animal lover ive seen more reactions re the goldfish than a case of child abuse on this site.
Question Author
I realised that Anne, but the "you may have committed a crime" comment was utterly ridiculous.

Your comment made me chuckle, and sing Thou Shall Have A Fishy On A Little Dishy... :D

Question Author
Mamyalynne, there was no other way I could word it. It seemed whatever I wrote, given the sensitive nature of the subject, would have caused a backlash.
A tad overboard though, I think.

But anyway, it's done now. We live and learn.
Anne, it would be interesting to see the threads about child abuse that have only received scant condemnation.
