Fox Cub

I've just spotted a young fox cub on my patio. Didn't seem the least phased when I spoke to it. Do you think the mum will be nearby? Hate to think it's all on its own with no parents to fend for it.

Beautiful excelsior, could have stretched out my hand and touched it. Looks very well fed so no doubt mum is nearby. Thanks for reassurance.
you are very welcome.

it;s good to see somebody re-assured on here
Ive only ever seen one fox in the wild and that was the other month, im 32 now. How very lucky maggiebee.
I hear them screaming on the back of the house though on a night, its a horrible noise!! xx
Yeah Kat, they sound like baby's screaming to me.
Hopefully you'll have a regular visitor!
The first time i heard it i was going to wake my boyfriend up to go on the backs and see what was happening, i honestly thought someone was been attacked. xx
good point, boxtops

if so, it will be under the watchful eyes of the mother.

do you think maggiebee, if it does return - you could take a picture to show us all?
Where I grew up, rural Berkshire, the bit that's now in Oxfordshire, the family fortune came from a Riding Stables and Poultry Farm, so however cute they might be I can only ever see Foxes as vermin.

Will try to get a photo. Have spoken to my neighbour and she has seen both mother and cub so guess their den is quite close.
that is good of you .. thank you
Try walking up to the cub - I am sure that mummy fox will turn up then. ;-)
We see them quite often round here. They come for the marmite sandwiches.
maggie, do not touch the cub, if it's mom smells human sent on the cub she may reject it.
Agree with tony. Not worth the risk.
My comment was tongue-in-cheek. If mother was around she would stop any human getting too near her young.
