I think all advertising for holidays to Portugal should be banned. How can anyone trust a country whose police has handled this case in such a messy way? I would defiantly not be taking my family there again. I also think that rich personalities like Sir Cliff Richard who lives there should uproot and move to a country that would spend the tax that he pays on his vineyards etc. On a better police force.

I have also decided that because I have now got the hump with Sir Cliff Richard, I will try and sell all the records that I have him and send any money that I receive to Madeleine's fund. If I can't sell them I know just the place for them on the 5th November!

People dont give a toss though.

Record numbers of people went to Porugal this Summer as long as the holiday is cheap people dont care. The same as imports from China/India where child labour is used.
Perhaps at the same time Portugal should stop unfit parents from travelling and creating the situation in the first place.
You are joking right????
Question Author
This is not a joking matter so whoever thinks it is must be as sick as Reverandfunk and Boo!
It certainly doesn't deter me from visiting Portugal. People die from being hit by cars but it wouldn''t stop me from crossing the road.
You would only get about 20p for your entire Cliff collection, not really worth it eh?
I never said i found your post funny Totter and neither did Rev either.

I'll give you insight though into the human mind shall I? I used to work for a travel company and following the 9/11 tragedy we had a record number of calls from customers asking if we were offering cheap holidays to the States because of it.

Whatever our personal thoughts towards Madeleine, it won't stop people holidaying in Portugal.

This was no accident squarebear and being run over is an entirely a different matter!
We are talking about a missing child.
Have you no sympathy at all?
Of course I have sympathy but I don't see why it should stop anyone going on holiday there.

Ok I could get mugged in New York but again I would still go there. Is that a better example?
nobody really knows how the police are handling the case, we only know what people want us to hear, portugese policing is very different to ours. the table could be turned and the portugese say we dont want tourists here who blatantly leave their children alone and go out and enjoy themselves then leave us to use our police force and finace to help find a missing child
Question Author
Boo,
You may be better off sharing your insight into the human mind with the Portugal Police!
Right............
i`d go, kids go missing all the time. There is something fishy going on about this, why haven`t the parents shed any tears?
I would hope they've already started making moves to improve things by sacking the officer in charge of this case:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles /news/worldnews.html?in_article_id=485360&in_p age_id=1811

Let's hope they find a good enough replacement & team to look into the disappearance of this poor little girl, although I fear it'll be too little too late.

P.S. The behaviour of the Portugal Police will not deter most people from holidaying there, although I'd think twice about going back after our last visit a few years back.

Squarebear,

OK I agree, if your not bothered about being mugged or worst being shot in one of the most renowned holiday destinations involving gun crimes and mugging thats up to you! Keep going.
I intend to. Why should I let something like this spoil my choice of holiday destination? I'm sure you could find something bad about any place if you looked hard enough.
Question Author
DJonesy,

Just because we havent seen any pictures of the parents shedding tears, they must have in private!
Does a tear for the camera make it less fishy in your mind?
Totter - would you care to let us know which holiday destination you think is okay to go to?

I was going to go to London, but because of the Menenez shooting< I have thought twice about it. Obviously, Portugal is out and since Cliff Richard has a place in Barbados, I had better skip there to.

All holiday destination ideas gratefully received.
I don't think there's anywhere in the world that haven't got some kind of social problems. We've been all over (well near enough) & have found some places better than others.

I think it's up to the individual/s to 'personally' experience something not very nice in a country before deciding whether or not to go back - not just because of what they read in the paper, or watch on the telly!

Oneeyedvic,

Firstly I would go to Barbados because as far as I know the police work with the same principals as non Portuguese police and if Sir Cliff Richard has a place there I bet he does not pay the amount of business tax that would sufficiently go towards funding the Barbadian police force than that of Portugal.

Secondly the Menenez case has totally different circumstances that I defiantly dont condone but (suspected terrorist running away from armed police little girl missing) no comparison.

And finally as far as holidays destination ideas are concerned you may want to contact Boo. Apparently Boo had calls from customers asking if her company were offering cheap holidays after 9/11 tragedy (Sick)

P.S. Oneeyedvic, your attempt of sarcasm sucks!
