Toilet Filling Slowly

Wondering if anyone can help advise on anything that I can try later.

It is filling but very slowly, more like a light hissing kind of sound and none of the usual noise when the cistern refills after flushing.

To use it again quite soon after first flushing it means having to fill it with water from the tap to allow it to flush. I have bowel conditions so often need to use it again quickly.

Is there anything anyone can suggest to try? Parts have been replaced twice in it for the push down flush not working but it is working now, just can't use it until it refills or I refill it manually.

Thanks for any help.

Eve it sounds as though there may well be a blockage within the inlet.
Can you add a picture of the inside of the cistern as this may eliminate a lot of guess work.
if you lift the lever to the ballcock does it fill quicker ?

I don't think there is a ballcock :(

Picture here, will try to get a larger sized one:

This should hopefully be a larger version of the same picture.

there will be a lever or rod somewhere that lifts to open the source of water..
probably on the bit to the fore ?
The device at the top of your picture is most probably what is giving you the problems.
Check that the float is moving freely. Check it's outlet is not clogged.
Maybe replace it.
was thinking that Oz ...I had a device like this which was awful and had it replaced with ballcock
can't see a float ?
I would hazard a guess that the float does not drop as the water level in the cistern does, hence not refilling.
mine jammed open and was overflowing ! old ballcock much better option and not expensive to buy if you can get a fitter !

Do you mean the tube that pulls up to let the water through Murraymints? That seems to be ok and I think it was that bit that has been replaced twice (or at least the cables and bits above it).

Is the float the grey tube which hangs down? Can give it a gentle clean and see if that helps.

If it needs replacing, would I need a trade shop or would I be able to get that kind of thing in a place like Wilkos? B&Q are around but not easy to get to. Is it a generic kind of part or would I need to know product numbers and that kind of thing?

Thanks for all your help.
wish I was there to shove my hands in !!
when you pull that bit up is the flow of water better ?
These plastic inlet valves are more prone than convetional brass valves to blockages within. I can't give you the name of the valve, but dismantling and cleaning it out would be the first thing I would do.
It would involve isolating the water an removing that large collar nut just above the 'float'.
If it were me I would just remove that valve and replace it with one of these.

can get these bits in B &Q or Wilkes

Bless you Murraymints. I haven't fiddled with the float bit yet (now I know what that is haha!) so will have a fiddle and see what I can do.

Thank you so much for your help, I've had a number of problems with it over the last 6 years, cheap bits inside I imagine.

Will let you know how I get on :)
Just found this, it looks like the same as yours.

Oh wow, thank you for that, that's really helpful!

Sounds like it might be it, it's just trickling out (more hissing sound) and none of the usual noise when it refills following a flush.

Really grateful to you all!
