Toilet Cistern Not Filling

Today a neighbour was having some plumbing work done in his house, he wasnt sure which was his Stop **** so he turned ours off as a process of elimination. Not a problem.

He turns it off and our water stops, turns it back on again and the water works again, surprise, surprise.

A short time later after flushing the toilet I notice that its not filling, I look inside the cistern and the water is just trickling in very slowly. I move the float up and down, give everything a little wobble, thats as far as my plumbing skills go.

Water pressure is fine all around the house, just like it was before.

Whats happened here and how can I fix it?

Thanks

It may be very simple in that your neighbour may not have fully re-opened the stopcock.  This could result in your descripton if what pressure there now  is hasn`t quite got the push to reach your toilet cistern, which I would guess is the highest positoned water outlet in the house.

Just give the stopcock another turn to open it further and with luck all will be solved.

Could be a bit of dirt or something that has got disturbed by the water being turned on and off, and has lodged itself in the inlet to the cistern
Quite likely to be a bit of grit in the nozzle of the ball valve in the cistern. Isolate the cistern, there should be a valve on the pipe, and dismantle the valve and clean it. Sounds more difficult than it is.  If the pressure is okay elsewhere in the house this is almost certainly what is wrong.

It was a bit of dirt stuck in the nozxzle of the ball valve.

Thanks to all.

I love a happy ending.
