Corby. 'On a turnout of 42.2 per cent, 68 per cent voted No and 32 per cent voted Yes. Ten of the 440 counting districts recorded 'Yes' votes above 50 per cent. The campaign was described in retrospect by political scientist, Professor Iain McLean, as a "bad-tempered and ill-informed public debate".'

as routine Khandro blames the Scots for something thats not their responsibility...... whats your solution....? same number of seats for all nations???
I think the English should form their own parliament, perhaps then things would be shared equally after all the Irish and the Scots and the Welsh have their own.
There are enough snouts in the trough already TTT except they should be in their own parliament debating their own problems and not dictating English matters, perhaps then there would be no need to subsidise the Scots any longer.
If as many people say that England subsidises the Scots then why was all the politicians rushing up to Scotland to plead with them to stay as part of the union? I don't think it is as simple as this Barnett formula states.
gav, I have asked that question numerous times on AB , no one appears to know the answer!!!!!!
They may have 56 MPs but they are not in power.
It is now getting up my nose these stupid anti Scottish anti English rubbish!!
I have known many people in England who feel the London parliament doesn't represent their area. So if we start having an English parliament where do we stop. Went for a holiday in Cornwell where there seems to be a lot of anti English sentiment there.
Perhaps it's because our nuclear weapons are in Scotland :O.

But, more seriously, maybe it's because it is felt to be the right thing to stay together. A United Kingdom, at least in name, has more clout on the world stage than two smaller countries. If that comes at a bit of a higher price then so be it. The right thing to do is the right thing to do. Those calling for electoral reform so that number of votes casts reflects far closer the number of seats won are, on the whole, not UKIP supporters -- but if a fairer system leads to people you don't like getting more influence then it doesn't stop the system being fairer. Again, so be it.

We spend enough on overseas aid already. We could hardly stand by and watch the people of the Soviet Republic of Scotland eat grass. It's cheaper to keep you rooted in partial reality now than bale you out of self-inflicted turmoil in a few, short, years.

true, Gavmacp: have a look at the map of London. A wedge of blue to the southwest, out of a pie that is otherwise solid red (with a bit of yellow for the crust)
Yes, proof that Labour have morphed into the 'latte drinking metrosexual's' party*. And, as you've recently discovered, there aren't enough of you to ever put their snouts in the trough again.
*Except for a few right thickos oop north who are still 'at war' with Fatcher.
nope, still no one to answer the question. why are Westminster politicians so desperate to keep Scotland in United Kingdom ?
Jim answered it at 20:53 Sat 09th May.

See jim above, 20:53. Are you suggesting it is out of some form of conspiratorial self-interest or what? It is simply the right thing to do for everyone including the Scots for whom separation would be a disaster. This whole tiresome debate is based on emotion and not reason. As Douglas (Lord) Hurd hilariously said on the morning after. "I've seen many of these newly elected SNP MPs and they are not exactly, 'the pick of the bunch!' "

I agree.

Have got an answer to your own question, anne?
I think the emotion/reason criteria will also be true when we have the EU in/out referendum.
