Brilliant knock by Joe Root. A real talent. Couple of questions, what on earth has happened to Stuart Broad's batting? Here was a guy that some pundits were calling the 'next Flintoff, the next Botham' etc. now, he can't buy a run. Next, why do so many decisions go upstairs to the third umpire? I've just seen Anderson so obviously run out, yet the umpire asked for a review.

Broad took a nasty smack from a quick bowler last year - his confidence is just shot to pieces, even against the slow stuff.

Umpires are now horribly 'risk averse' - ironically this has led to some seriously carp decisions from the third umpire (like Moeen's catch yesterday)
Your second question is a serious problem open to a lot of debate .
As for Stuart Broad's batting problems I think this may have something to do with it.
