I'd like to make a stew with both in but am unsure which is the best fish to use. I'm guessing that a white meaty fish that doesn't taste strong would be the best so which ones have you cooked together and which fish would you recommend?

Yes, of course there is Tilly, how could I forget, its shell fish though isn't it, rather than actual fish.
Well I think Tuna tastes a bit like chicken and visa versa.

but as Tilly says, you can get a paella mix with both chicken and fish.
Think so, ethandron. I've never eaten it. I don't think I'd like it, in the same way that I don't like Surf 'n Turf. Not my sort of thing.
It's really tasty. I like surf and turf if it's done properly, haven't had it for ages. I'll give most things a go, don't like to think I'm missing out on a really good taste experience.
....I don't like sweet and sour either...:-)

Does anyone here make stews using two or three different types of meat? Would that work? Lamb, beef and chicken for instance?
Anything that's not sweet and sour, or a combination of fish and meat, Eccles.
Tilly....//Think so, ethandron. I've never eaten it. I don't think I'd like it, in the same way that I don't like Surf 'n Turf. Not my sort of thing//
But how can you really know...unless you try it? You may be pleasantly surprised.
This Caribbean recipe suggests "trevally, or other firm fish":

I've never seen trevally in a UK fishmonger's but tilapia (which is widely available) might be a good substitute. It's also what's used in this Nigerian recipe:

If I were going to make a fish stew, I'd go to Morrisons and buy their fish pie mix - haddock, cod, salmon..... or just look up a recipe for Bouillabaise!
