My ex...UK born...went to the US to do his PhD. One of the requirements was to teach. One of his first experiences was standing in front of the blackboard( remember those?),and referring to the object in his hand as a 'rubber'...as opposed to an eraser. This was met by much sniggering.
Then there was his first Thanksgiving meal. He was offered squash...his response was " squashed what?".
Naughty!
There's an apocryphal 1950s tale of what resulted when a US housewife posted with hubbie to UK got in a local chap to build a closet on either side of the bed. Suppose it was quicker in dead of night tho'.

Two, one each side of the bed. She thought she'd asked for fitted cupboards in the chimney recesses.
