I had an eye test and needed a different prescription. I stupidly chose Transition Lenses and I don't like them.

I thought I'd ask them to put the new lenses into my old glasses without Transition Tints and they wanted to charge me, £260!!

Went to a website and they are going to do it for £54.60.

Just thought I'd let anyone who is interested, know.

That is a ridiculous price, I am glad you are getting it done for a cheaper price. I went to Specsavers a few weeks ago and paid £85.00 for two new pairs.
Near where I live there is a workshop which makes specs for the trade. They also sell to the public, though they do not do eye tests, you need to take your prescription. The last time I used them I got my specs at 20% of the price the opticians wanted. Talk about mark up!
Oh I see
I stopped going to them the first time I tried varifocals. Every time they mentioned something the price went up again. Not extra things I was having added, just whatever they thought of adding at the time, as I recall. I was disgusted. When they finally said words to the effect of that's per lens I decided I was being taken advantage of and I'd go elsewhere in the future. That was about 15 years ago approximately. Sounds like they're still the same then. Not that any of these things are cheap. Should be on the NHS.
Tax exiles do need an income. !!

Even the girl who worked out the price seemed, shocked. Yeah right!!

I was expecting the price to be about £100ish as my new glasses cost £275. I won't be going back there again.
Question Author
why do you want to keep the new lenses if you don't like them?
Question Author
Well I'm stuck with them, jno.
New lenses, no tints, old frames.
Question Author
I thought I'd made that clear. :/ ha ha
but the transition business is chemistry within the glass, isn't it? Doesn't matter what frame they're in?
Question Author
Jno. I got my new Transition lenses in December in new frames. Having worn them since then, I have found, I don't like them.

I decided to change to plain lenses, using my old frames. I thought they would cost me considerably less than what the new pair had cost. Boots wanted to charge me about, £10 less than I was charged for a brand new pair.

I would then have, Two pairs of glasses.
