Break the Site Rules and the Ed can use any sanction he or she decides is appropriate. Ymb used an obscene avatar, so the ability to have an avatar was taken away.
If you do not want to be banned, just keep to the Site Rules.

In the spirit of peace and goodwill though I think it is a bit harsh to ban someone from avatars permanently.
When you think of the outrageous behaviour on some forum, ymb's offence doesn't seem that awful.

there aren't really any obscene avatars on the site (though mcfluff's is only an inch away). Nobody's banned ymb, just the avatar.
