Could it be Siegfried's Funeral March from Gotterdamerung?

Hope the You Tube link works, if not search for it and see if itswhat you have in mind.

What have I done wrong with the link?

you need the full, non-mobile URL for it to work in AB
Maydup, paste the YouTube link where it says 'Enter YouTube Link Here...
I did that Tony i obviously have an ipad version? But thanks for reposting it for me and lets hope it is what karatant is looking for.
Ah right, doesn't work with an ipad then, unless it works how bibblebub says.
you just have to take the m. out of the link for it to work.
the one that didn't work begins with m.youtube but the one that does work starts with www.youtube
I'm wondering if it's a piece by Gilbert and Sullivan:

Hmm... maybe AB doesn't like two videos in the same post?

Loudly let the Trumpet Bray, Gilbert and Sullivan.

Or, alternatively, The Thieving Magpie:

I give up. But the Thieving magpie has three drum rolls leading to a brassy opening, and is certainly the more often played.

Got to say a big thank you to all answerers. No luck yet however. I'm 90 per cent certain it's Wagner. - Two extended military snare drum rolls and then, at a medium tempo, heavy strident brass , notes being as follows :-
E BBB C# C# B. E EEE A A Ab.
It's driving me daft as it's a magnificent piece of music and I'd like to hear it more often.

As an aside, the idea of Wagner judging X Factor would show him to be less than a novice. I mean O.K., he was a nifty old tune smith, but come on! He could never fill Simons shoes! I mean!, he wouldn't have a clue as to what was going on! There, I've put Simon and Wagner in the same paragraph. . .
I've got a head-ache now. :/
