The plug on my coffee machine got splashed with a good lump of hot water whilst I was cleaning the worktop. Fortunately nothing went 'BANG' - but it was a moulded on plug & I couldn't be sure it was all dried out.

So I found a spare plug, cut the old one off the cord, stripped the wires & then had a 'bit of a moment' ...

... I must have fitted hundreds (thousands?) of plugs over the years, but haven't done one for a good while, now that everything has a fitted plug when you buy it.

Logically I know which colours are which - but would you trust yourself without checking?

I did check (and was right) ... but would you?

It is the business of the artisan to right royaly take the P out of those with no practical skills and charge then an exorbitant fee for so doing.
I wish I was. I could afford to get the light in the parlour fixed.
It gave up the ghost a year or so ago. I just brought a lamp into the room.
Sandy....may be in your neck of the woods next year....want me to pop in and look at the faulty light......?

Pop, I see, may be an unfortunate choice of words....☺
I thought you were more into popping out than popping in Gness.
I'm getting confused between the two threads.

Have you got an electric car Tilly?
If you are coming to Belfast could you bring a tin of cream coloured masonry paint and a brush? You'll remember I painted the sill and the paint almost immediately started to flake and blister. Its nearly all gone now.
Well the colour is Silver Lightning, so it may be, Dave.
Oh, I'll pop any which way you like, Zacs.....

I remember an American phoning and asking for MrG.....Oh, he's popped out....I said.....
Jeez...came the reply....Was it sudden....had he been ill?...☺
Sandy...I have half a tin of cream masonry paint believe it or not.....if I come by car I'll bring it.....by Ryanair...hmmm...could be difficult...x
OP, I'd be in deep *** if I couldn't. If That toaster that she wanted side of the bath hadn't worked... well I'd never hear the end of it.
Ark!...☺☺☺
Ark, not a good idea to have a toaster on the side of the bath. A hair drier is much less likely to attract suspicion, make sure it has a 13 amp cable and fuse though. :o)
Does knock on next door looking pathetic count? ;)
Eve...if Stephen Fry lived next door to me.....nothing in my house would have a working plug.....♥

Yes I 'did' my first plug in the 60's just married and MrAsk was out. My washer was situated in the cellar it was a huge drum thing with a swishing paddle and a wringer attached (handed down). One day it wouldn't start so I tackled the plug, switched it on and ran for cellar steps in case it blew up. It worked.
I'll take anything I can get, Ael!.....☺
I remember which wire goes where the same way as frank97. Quite simple once you've got that in your head.
