Deafness Or Not?

Does anyone else have hearing problems during TV plays when actors are talking outdoors? I have no problem hearing things inside,and wonder if it's just the sound quality ( or lack of it)

Outdoor scenes will always have more background noise (if only from the air movement caused by the wind). Difficulty in picking out the sounds you want to hear, from among those that you don't, s a recognised sign of hearing loss:

but what it really comes down to is getting an appointment with your GP for a proper hearing test (which might be done at the doctor's surgery but is more likely to be at a hospital audiology clinic, simply because they've got the specialist equipment needed).

Hearing tests are simple and stress free, although you might get rather bored sitting in a sound-proof booth listening to tones and pressing buttons!

I think that almost everyone has the same problem as you, at least everyone over the age of 55 years.
Indoor acoustics for TV programs can be " contrived" for maximum sound perception, height of ceiling, consistency of walls etc, but outside, the elements are on the driving seat and cannot be controlled.

So yes, it may not be your fault.

However if you have difficulty in hearing in other situations e.g having difficulty on what other people are saying, then see your GP and have a hearing test.

I agree with buenchico. Unless it's your TV in particular, there isn't a problem with sound quality. It sounds as though you're having trouble filtering out background noise, which is a hearing problem.

You may also have difficulty hearing in a crowded room

These are all early [soft] signs of going deaf - actually it sounds (ha!) as tho your hearing is better than both sides of my family.

You may find it is too early for hearing aids in which case - for those off days, there is always the subtitle toggle somewhere on your remote.
and hearing zone will give details of signed programmes. I haven't been able to hear what people say unless I see their lips move for over ten years - these are subconscious clues which you lost quickly after getting aids apparently
