I have a Sony TV with only 1 HDMi socket & I need to connect 1 Sky+ HD Box and 1 Blu Ray Player to the TV via HDMi cables. I am using an HDMi splitter to connect the 2 appliances to the TV. The problem is I am getting a very bad signal to the TV even when using only 1 appliance at a time. When checking the splitters advertised on Amazon.co.uk they state that they are for connecting 1 input to 2 outputs. Am I to assume that they only work 1 way & NOT the way I wish them to work ( 2 in & 1 out ?)

>>>they are for connecting 1 input to 2 outputs

. . . which is exactly what you're doing anyway! i.e. you're connecting one input (that of your TV) to two outputs (those of your Sky box and BluRay player).

If you're having problems, try a switch box instead:

Of course that needs a total of three HDMI cables to be used with it but you don't need to spend a fortune buying extra cables. Cheap ones work every bit as well as more expensive one:

You don't want a splitter! You need a switch. Splitters send the same signal in 2 directions at the same time - that isn't what you are trying to do.

Thanks guys I'll have a look at a switched unit instead.

A while ago Aldi were knocking these out, bound to be doing them again soon. I have a Freesat+HD box, Saorview box and blu-ray player all feeding into the only HDMI port on my TV with one of these and it works a treat.

Hi guys I am seeking your help again on this issue. I have now purchased an HDMi Switch which is clearly marked Output X1, In X 3, & I still cannot get it to operate from the Sky Box. Can anyone suggest where I am going wrong ? This is the one that I am using.
