A straightforward grid fill and an interesting endgame - no grid staring for once! Not sure about 1d but otherwise all done if I have understood it correctly!

Hi DD, as I understand it, it is a continuation rather than a conversion, and you should be able to get help on line with it. Conversion is only needed if you want to check the December 2184 connection. That's the bit I dodged - I did a rough check and settled for that. Mind you, this is a case of the blind leading the blind!
Sorry I can't explain it better. Perhaps someone else will do a better job.
Hi Christina, thanks for trying but I'm afraid I am totally confused. All the working out results in a selection that isn't (as I understand it) 'prefix', I need further help. People who understand and use maths have no idea what it's like for those of us for whom it's a closed shop. Somewhat like trying to explain snow and ice to a Beduin who has never moved from the Sahara trails!
I wouldn't say that we have no idea. It's a skill like any other, some of us have it and others don't, but with time and effort you can learn. I can't understand how people can get so good at playing certain musical instruments. There's not nearly as much hard maths in this as it seems, however. The "three" connected clues and their clue numbers should help you to get started. From then on it's a question of counting up in the relevant sequence, and the rules are easily findable on the internet if you are still stuck!
Hi Jim360......you really don't have any idea!! I have the clue numbers and I know the basic (and I do mean basic) on off theory, but there it stops. I have trawled the internet under a multitude of key words and now know the conversion of the '3' connected clues to every conceivable base known to man, but it doesn't help when my additions lead to non-prefix numbers. It's off 'over the shoulder' as I've got the end of year accounts to do....thanks for trying!
I've seen a lot of people get into a flap over problems that they think are difficult but turn out not to be. I think this is probably the same thing. Hampered, of course, by the fact that I feel unable to explain the answer properly without giving the solution away which is bad etiquette.

Counting works the same, anyway, in every base. You just have more or fewer options to count. Don't even need to fuss too much about converting from one base to another. The question of what to put under the grid can become: "What is the next largest number containing only the thematically allowed digits?" You can answer that question in "normal" numbers if you like. There is no need to fuss about countng, or converting, or even checking the date.

Again, thanks for trying Jim360....even your avatar puts fear and dread into my feeble brain! Basic arithmetic fine, have calculated the amount of feed /straw/diesel/big bales & meat in the freezers for the valuation, and even the petty cash balances, but no x's, y's or other strange symbols involved. Look forward to a nice literary EV on Sunday!
