I am bemused.Tom Bradbury on discussing Gordon Brown potentially being the next PM - said he may be too Scottish for the English middle class.(Leaving aside Tony Blair is Scottish).

What does that infer?Surely any nationality within GB are entitled to be PM.Are we deemed inferior or could that be interpreted as a racist remark?

Thank you very much for your advice drisgirl i will scroll back through these posts and enlighten and educate myself on what middle england is im awfully excited about this!!Thank you for your help!!
I agree that Scottish MPs shouldnt be allowed to vote on England-specific issues. As for the trite comment about England subsidsing Scotland, well Scotland produces its fair share of wealth compared to other rural areas of the UK. We dont get English people moaning about subsidising the Lake District, Wales or Northumberland, yet all these areas produce much less wealth than Scotland. And dont forget if it wasnt for Scottish people there would be no one to sell the Big Issue in London...

fish kid -theres a job for you - keep you off the streets-and we definately invented deep fried mars bars cos we are the unhealthiest country in the league.(they're minging have you tried them)?

Deliverance -pleasure all mine - I actually learnt a bit cos I didnt really know what he was rattling on about.Just knew by the way he talked it wasnt geographical cos he was being too political.

Trying hard to get back to Drisgirl's original question:

I don't think that Gordon Brown being Scottish is the reason he would make a poor prime minister. Ugly and stupid are much stronger reasons for avoiding him I'd say ! As regards nationality - we are all one Nation, and have been ever since we both had the same King James on the throne. We're all essentially Celtic in origin too, it is just that the Romans and French did a better job of suppressing our roots in the middle of England than they did in Cornwall, Manx, Wales, Scotland and Ireland. Fair comment that we all have a bit of Saxon and Viking blood in us too, but we are all essentially of the same race - and therefore incapable of making racist comments about each other.

Although I would debate he is stupid (note I left his looks out cos it doesnt matter).Suspect there was a bit of tonque in cheek there.I only want someone who will represent our country in a fair and (un) biased way:)

I appreciate your input because I thought my Q was succinct but as usual the thread went awoll!!
