Did anyone see this? Aired on I|TV on Feb 19. Probably as well for my blood pressure that I knew nothing about it. It is one thing to try to get an alternative side to the war, but it cannot be the case that 100 minutes of Russian zombies spouting propaganda can be all that instructive or helpful.

On the other hand the Oscar-winning 20 Days in Mariupol seems very elusive: it is available on PBS, but not in this country unless presumably you use a VPN.

' from the Russian side '  .?

i didn't know they had a side.
I'll read the article later .

No. Knew nothing about it. But my suspicion is that it'll change little to nothing. Folk already know their view, those who wish to believe the claims already will. Those who think it's all lies will simply reject it. Everyone will continue to act according to their beliefs and aims. Although best not to broadcast on Ukrainian TV though. Moral is important.

Well it passed me by too. It clearly had little effect on public perceptions.

It's sad that, at one time, journalists reported, observed and commented. That was obviously far too unexciting for The Mail. A desperate case of looking for an 'angle'

The reason I became aware of it is because ABC are now showing it in Australia and it's caused a lot of controversy there.
As I said above it would be fascinating to get a view from the other side but not simply like that.

The Russians very tightly control access to places like Donetsk city - which is odd because you'd think if there'd been all that genocide etc by Ukraine they'd want to show the evidence; give examples. A crisp fiver to anyone who can find a single example of a Donbas "Bucha" in even the smallest scale.

20 d in Mariupol is played on ch 91 - PBS and eeeerrr - I didnt think it was that good quite honestly

press corps that didnt want to get shot - so think Gaza reporting only they speak Ukrainian.

(one of those films where the best part is the title)

I think the "angle" rightly taken by the Mail is that here was nearly 2 hours of enemy propaganda however unwittingly.
In fact why would one want to hear 2 hours of that from the other side either? Just boring - even if probably truer to reality. Luvkijy indeed it seemed to have little impact

The BBC did a long documentary on Mariupol a good while  back but I couldn't bear to watch it.

I think I saw that one, and it was much better.

The troops ran out of ammunition, and surrendered on camera - and it was clear everyone thought they were going to gulags or to  shooting pits. ( wh wasnt the case. some were even repatriated).

The Russians very tightly control access to places like Donetsk city -

I cdnt tell who was Ukrainian and who Russian. One said ( war weary) "OK I will  be Russian if they want, I just  want them to stop bombing us"

wh I kinda thought wasnt propaganda - but war weary folk  caught in an impasse

"wh I kinda thought wasnt propaganda - but war weary folk  caught in an impasse"

That's from the film about Mariupol I assume? And perfectly understandable. It's the very reason the Russians do what they do of course.  Nothing much to do with Donetsk.

you can watch 20 days in Mariupol on BFI Player which is about £5 a month

I am bad: I cant bring myself to watch the russian propaganda film whereas I dont mind the photo shots of the concert hall in Moscow ( VERY like Arena 2017)

( Arena was marred by reports of  a marauding gunmen when there wasnt, but it paralysed rescue for an hour or two)
