help with memory

i have a 40gb hard drive with very little stored on it, but for some reason the computer says i have only a little under 1gb left, i also get a message saying that that windows virtual memory is running low, can somebody help me please!!!

I had the virtual memory running low message yesterday. If you go into the help section under START and search for it , you can find out how to increase the memory size. Dont ask me what virtual memory is though!!!!

its advisable not to change the virtual memory quantity yourself, unless you know what you're doing. normally, you should let windows manage it for you.

paddywoo: go into my computer, and tell me how many "hard disk drives" you have. just one, C:\ ? if so, right-click it, and click properties. it'll tell you how much free space you have, and how much used. how much does it say?

The other thing is it depends what you mean by very little ... lots of music files will eat up space, as will things like video editing where 1 minute of video can consume hundreds of megabytes of space!

hi i have 925mb left on my memory, i have no videos, and only about 100 mp3 files, hope this helps!

Ok, install this free program:

http://windirstat.sourceforge.net/

it basically tells you where the large files on your hard drive are, i.e. what's taking up all the room!

hi there have done that thanks, it say that over 15gb is being used by a folder called myworks, a file called JmwF8.tmp is using 4gb for example,any further idea? thanks in advance

well I have no idea what that folder is for. What have you installed that might take up so much room, or has anyone else been using the computer?

If you go into add/remove programs, take off anything you don't use anymore.
