Ok, I'm recently single and judging by my recent posts a depressive and complete moanbag (am trying to sound a little more upbeat!) but today does seem fairly pointless. Half the population is depressed particualarly those who have just learnt what it's like to lose love and the other half, while I'm sure dancing about on cloud nine, is poorer! Surely you can show your love for a partner on any day of the year? Plus also why do relationships always seem to break down just before a public holiday?! Feel free to disagree with me if you want : ) (Sorry gone back to mope clearly! I promise I'll start a more cheerful thread tomorrow!) xxx

I'm in love but, in a similar way to how Xmas has become, Valentine's had well and truly done my nut in several day ago. I do however look forward to the day.....because it means this time tomorrow all the Valentine's rubbish will have ******** off

Mr Sunflower and me hate Val day. It is so silly and wrong. I feel desperate for the people stood trying to pick out roses/a card for that 'special day' just because they feel pressured from the partner and/or media. We celebrate our wedding anniversary on the 8th Feb; we could have got married over valentines but it was so tacky. Be spontaneous any day of the year, it's far more refreshing.

I hate it too!!! Valentines day makes you feel like being single is wrong (NOT TRUE) and makes you feel like crap cos your the only person in the world with no flowers!
Yep, and whilst we're at it, can we please bin off mothers day, fathers days, grandparents day and any other damn ******* stupid days that ******** like clinton cards rub their hands with glee on..............

I understand why this is a bit of a hard time this year, but it hasn't bothered me too much - not like Christmas did!

I'm OK with Mother's Day because that is a genuine traditional occasion, but the purely invented ones - 'grandparents' day' is juts not on - and i am a grandparent, but I don;t encourage my daughter to feel she has to get a card for us.

I know you have been going through it, and all this romance kinda rubs it in, but next year .....?

Hello yellowduck, I,ve posted recently on this subject, It is the most pointless DAY ever. I,ve been married 14 years, and we are both in agreement its a rip off.

Before i get all the Pro-Valentine Brigade having ago at me, Go and buy the same Flowers/Chocolates & meals etc next week, Then ask yourself Why do i let people rip me off.

LOVE IS 24/7 all day, every day, if people are happy to pay these inflated prices then good luck and enjoy your Day/Night.

On your other point yellowduck, I don't no why relationships break down just before the public holidays, Maybe some tighta**e dosen't want to treat their partner to a weekend away, or maybe you've just been unlucky.Hope you don't get to downbeat tho, and because theirs no Mr Right today dose'nt mean their won't be tomorrow.

Enjoy your evening

I always thought that Valentine's Day was for sending anonymous cards to someone you fancied - a bit of fun. It never used to be for sending cards/flowers to your partner.

i agree. its a shame that it means so much to some and hurts some so much when it is forgotten.

i personally don't really care but i suppose it can be quite nice to get a genuinely anonymous card, but you can keep all the frilly heart shaped things and red devils etc etc - bleurgh!

duckie - this may cheer you up a little - i am loving the term moanbag!! you have made me giggle and I intend to call my sister it asap LOL ;o)

Well maing you chuckle Joko is about the only thing I've managed to accomplish today (besides being the hamper of all moanbags!) so it has made me happier, thank you! In fact, you're all fab : ) xxx
I have been with my fella for 4 years and have always thought of valentines as another money spinner. I don't 'celebrate' it much although I do buy him a gift because I like to spoil him as much as I can this is a good excuse. But I think (although it wont happen) if Valentines was to never happen again it wouldnt bother me.
There is nothing wrong with keeping such days, its society which yet again have ruined it and taken it to extremes! My partner and I had a lovely day without spending lots of money or rubbing others faces in it! We decided before hand that we wouldn't buy extravangt gifts and go over the top but spend some quality time together. Likewise i also took the opportunity to show my mum and sister how much they meant to me. In todays busy and hectic lifestlyle, i dont see anything wrong with a little pit stop to show those we care about just how much...this dosn't have to be just of the opposite sex!
